چکیده

In practice, direct current (DC) is used in an electrocoagulation processes. In this case, an impermeable oxide layer may form on the cathode as well as corrosion formation on the anode due to oxidation. This prevents the effective current transfer between the anode and cathode, so the efficiency of electrocoagulation processes declines. These disadvantages of DC have been diminished by adopting alternating current (AC) in electrocoagulation processes. The main objective of this study is to investigate the effects of AC and DC on the removal of iron from water using zinc as anode and cathode. The results showed that the optimum removal efficiency of 99.6% and 99.1% with the energy consumption of 0.625 and 0.991 kWhkL−1 was achieved at a current density of 0.06Adm−2, at pH of 7.0 using AC and DC, respectively. For both AC and DC, the adsorption of iron was preferably fitting Langmuir adsorption isotherm, the adsorption process follows second order kinetics and the temperature studies showed that adsorption was exothermic and spontaneous in nature.

Humic acid removal from aqueous solutions by peroxi-electrocoagulation process

Background: Natural organic matter is the cause of many problems associated with water treatment such as the presence of disinfection by-products (DBPs) and membrane fouling during water filtration. In this study, the performance of the peroxi-electrocoagulation process (PEP) was investigated for the removal of humic acids (HAs) from aqueous solutions. Methods: PEP was carried out for the remov...

Pretreatment of Brackish Water Using DC-Electrocoagulation- Method and Optimization

Electrochemically generated iron can remove most contaminants present in water and wast water, by precipitation, adsorption, electrostatic interaction, and complex formation (generally called electrocoagulation-EC). In the present paper, pretreatment of brackish water having high total hardness (TH), alkalinity (A),  and Cl¯ ions, is studied by application of a DC-electrical current ot the ...

Introduction: Color is one of the indices of water pollution. Discharge of colored effluent can damage to receiving water resources. One of the proposed methods for treating dyeing wastewater is electrocoagulation process. In this study, decolorization of the real textile effluent by electrocoagulation process using monopolar iron electrodes was studied. Methods: This study was run experiment...
